GE and Siemens jointly promote the in-depth application of edge computing in process automation
May 13, 2025
At the Hannover Messe in Germany in April this year, GE and Siemens jointly demonstrated their process automation control system based on edge computing. The solution integrates GE’s Predix platform and Siemens’ Edge Devices, enabling local processing of key data on the device side, significantly reducing latency and improving control response speed.
The new system is particularly suitable for scenarios with high real-time requirements such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and food processing. In the on-site demonstration, the system shortened the response time of pump and valve switches by 30%, and supported seamless integration with other brand control systems such as Allen-Bradley and Honeywell.

Recommended products:
GE RX3i controller: supports Predix industrial cloud connection and has powerful local processing capabilities.
Siemens S7-1500: high-performance PLC, supports TIA Portal full life cycle management.
Siemens Industrial Edge: edge computing box, integrated AI analysis and equipment diagnosis.

The edge computing automation solution is demonstrated, focusing on low-latency control and real-time data processing capabilities, which perfectly meets the “microsecond response” needs of the manufacturing industry; it can be widely deployed in food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals and other industries.
