ABB excitation units fall into two main categories:

The first is the Millmate Excitation Unit, which provides power to force sensors and handles signal acquisition.

The second is the UNITROL series PFVI power unit—specifically the Generator Excitation Unit—which serves as the power rectification cabinet for generator rotor excitation.

The PFVI401 is the excitation unit for the ABB Millmate 400 rolling force measurement system. Its primary function is to supply a highly precise, stable excitation voltage to strain-gauge force sensors or Pressductor load cells, while simultaneously acquiring and conditioning rolling force signals.

These products are predominantly used in metallurgical rolling lines—such as those for hot-rolled strip, cold-rolled sheet, medium-to-heavy plate, and aluminum foil—to facilitate real-time monitoring, closed-loop automatic roll-gap control, mill overload protection, and early warnings for strip breakage or cobbles.
