The PM633 is a VME rack-mounted central processor module designed for installation in standard VME rack slots. It is programmed using Control Builder M—specialized software for the Advant OCS system—which supports IEC 61131-3 standard programming languages ​​such as Ladder Diagram (LD), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Structured Text (ST). Additionally, it can integrate with the ABB 800xA system for supervisory monitoring, enabling functions such as visualization, alarming, historical trending, and reporting.

Its core hardware features a Motorola MC68340 (a 25 MHz 32-bit RISC industrial processor) along with RAM and Flash memory, supporting the storage of programs, process parameters, and SOE (Sequence of Events) data. The various communication interfaces on the product surface correspond to distinct functions, which can be summarized into six key areas:

1. AF100 Bus: System I/O backplane bus connecting S800 I/O modules; supports copper/fiber-optic cabling and communication between local and remote I/O stations.
2. Dual RS-232/RS-485 Serial Ports: Used for program downloading, local commissioning, and Modbus-RTU communication; interfaces with instruments, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and third-party equipment.
3. Ethernet Port: 10/100 Mbps; connects to the 800xA supervisory system to upload alarms, trends, and events, and to receive remote operation commands.
4. DDCS Drive Interface: Direct connection to ABB ACS600/ACS800 drives, enabling closed-loop drive control and interlocking.
5. Redundancy Synchronization Interface: Real-time data synchronization link between dual CPUs, ensuring consistency between primary and backup states.
6. LED Status Indicators: Displays status for power, run, fault, bus, low battery, and redundancy; facilitates rapid fault diagnosis.
