The AMC8 is installed in the front of a VM600 rack (ABE04x/ABE056), with an IOC8T module positioned at the rear—a design concept similar to that of Bently Nevada products. It is primarily responsible for signal processing and monitoring logic.

Key specifications are as follows:

Channel Capacity: 8 channels for temperature/process monitoring, each independently configurable via software.

Input Types: Thermocouples (TC), RTDs, 0–25 mA current, and 0–10 V voltage.

Output Capability: Drives local relays on the IOC8T or relays on an RLC16 relay card via the bus.

Configuration Access: Via an RS-232 port on the front panel, or through the VME bus via a CPU card.

Typical applications for the AMC8 include protection and monitoring in sectors such as thermal power generation (steam and gas turbines), the chemical industry (compressors), and large-scale pumping units—specifically for monitoring bearing pad temperatures, thrust pad temperatures, and lubricating oil pressures.

According to official information, the AMC8 and IOC8T are currently being phased out; spare parts will remain available until 2027. There is no direct replacement for the VM600 Mk1 system; however, the corresponding alternative within the VM600 Mk2 system is the AMC10Mk2 + IOC10Mk2 combination.
