ABB launches AI-driven smart substation solution to help upgrade Industry 4.0

ABB recently announced the launch of its new AI-driven smart substation solution. The system combines ABB’s leading automation technology with artificial intelligence algorithms to achieve more accurate load forecasting and real-time fault self-healing, improving the stability and efficiency of the power system.

This release marks another major progress in ABB’s transformation to smart grids and Industry 4.0. The system has been first deployed in the energy management system of a large European manufacturing company, and operating data shows that energy efficiency has increased by about 18%.

Customer case: ArcelorMittal South Africa carried out a large-scale blast furnace renovation and control system upgrade at its steel plant in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. Using the System 800xA system provided by ABB, including 7 redundant AC800M controllers, 7,000 I/O points were integrated to control the entire blast furnace process, achieving annual energy savings of 12% and significantly reducing the failure rate of power transformers.
