87WF01G-E is a core data acquisition board for the ABB Procontrol P14 DCS I/O subsystem; it cannot operate independently. The complete system architecture comprises an operation and monitoring layer, a control master unit layer, an I/O rack layer, and a field device layer.

This module directly accepts 4–20 mA signals from various field transmitters (temperature, pressure, level, flow) and provides high/low-voltage isolation to protect the controller from field-induced interference. It amplifies and filters low-level signals—such as those from RTDs and thermocouples—converts them into digital signals, and transmits them via the bus to the main control unit (Procontrol P14) at high speed, achieving millisecond-level refresh rates.

It enables rapid interaction with the main control unit to ensure real-time data synchronization and meet control system response requirements. Supporting dual-module redundancy, it is particularly suitable for high-reliability applications—such as power plant main protection systems and critical boiler measurement points—thereby enhancing system availability.

Crucially, the module performs real-time self-monitoring to detect anomalies such as wire breaks, over-range conditions, and short circuits; it automatically issues alarms and reports status to the host system, facilitating rapid fault diagnosis.
