The Emerson Epro MMS6823A, as a communication interface module for the MMS6000 turbine generator set vibration monitoring and protection system, is commonly used for data acquisition and monitoring of rotating machinery.

The RS485 bus transmission rate is selectable at 38400bps or 57600bps; it supports both MODBUS RTU/ASCII and TCP/IP protocol conversion output, and can support up to 192 data channels.

It includes one RS232 serial port, eight RS485 serial ports, and one 10/100M industrial Ethernet interface for communication with the MMS6851 server.

Working principle

This module is a supporting product for the MMS6000 turbine generator set vibration monitoring and protection system. It connects to the MMS6000 system's RS485 bus via a 48-pin connector, continuously collecting data such as speed characteristics and alarm status from the connected modules. The internal microprocessor processes the collected raw data and converts it into two standard protocols, MODBUS RTU/ASCII and TCP/IP, using a dual-bus parallel architecture. This data is then output through the 48-pin connector and RJ45 interface respectively for reading by control systems such as DCS and DEH. Simultaneously, parameters of each MMS6000 board can be remotely configured via the TCP/IP interface. When the monitored speed exceeds a set threshold (e.g., 110% of the turbine's rated speed), it quickly feeds back an alarm status to trigger protection actions.
