In the overall sensing system, the IQS450's front-end coaxial aviation connector connects to the EA401 male connector, while the EA401 female connector connects to the integral cable of the TQ401 probe; the coil at the tip of the TQ401 probe faces the metal target surface of the rotating shaft—this constitutes the interconnection layout of the three components.

If the integral cable of the TQ401 is sufficiently long, it can be connected directly to the IQS450; the EA401 serves as an optional extension cable.

How exactly do these three products operate together?

The IQS450 outputs a high-frequency excitation drive to the TQ401.

An internal oscillator within the IQS450 generates a high-frequency alternating excitation signal, which is transmitted via the EA401 coaxial cable to the coil inside the TQ401 probe; when energized, the coil generates an alternating electromagnetic field at the probe tip.

The probe's magnetic field traverses the air gap to reach the metal rotating shaft; based on electromagnetic induction, eddy currents are induced on the shaft surface. These eddy currents generate an opposing magnetic field that counteracts the strength of the probe's original magnetic field.

The TQ401 captures the signal representing the change in impedance and transmits it back to the IQS450 via the EA401.
