Key Features
Signal Acquisition and Preprocessing
The controller acquires turbine speed signals in real time via passive speed sensors while simultaneously receiving equipment status signals—such as bearing temperature and vibration data—from sensors, along with remote speed or load signals from the plant DCS system. Acquired signals undergo processing through built-in filter circuits to reduce harmonic interference.
PID Calculation and Logic Evaluation
It incorporates Woodward's patented adaptive PID controller, which automatically calculates the optimal dynamic gain tailored to the current system. When cascade PID control is enabled, the controller compares the 4-20mA process signal with the internal setpoint to adjust the speed PID controller's setpoint. This dual PID cascade design maintains stable control during normal operation and enables disturbance-free control mode switching during operating condition fluctuations, minimizing process parameter overshoot or undershoot.
Executing Control Commands
Upon completing calculations, the controller sends control signals to the actuator connected to the turbine inlet steam valve. By modulating the steam valve to adjust steam flow, it precisely controls turbine speed and load, ensuring equipment parameters align with setpoints.
Status Monitoring and Fault Protection
During operation, the system continuously monitors all indicators of the turbine and auxiliary equipment. Upon detecting faults such as over-temperature, excessive vibration, or abnormal oil levels, it immediately triggers protective mechanisms. Simultaneously, the controller synchronizes equipment operating status and fault alarm information to the DCS system via communication interfaces, enabling personnel to promptly troubleshoot issues.
